Tips On Dressing Right For An Office Party

by Connor Sullivan on May.21, 2010, under Leadership

The idea of gatherings change radically, with one’s age. Young kids love the party due to all the games and sweets. Teenagers have their own thinking of partying with a lot of noisy music, dancing and freedom. Family events and parties are much more sophisticated yet informal. Yet, one thing is common with all parties, they are meant to be fun and memorable indeed. The same goes for office parties. There are many types of office parties. They are a very important part of the corporate culture after all. One of the important corporate firms in Dallas keeps organizing events for its workers regularly. These Dallas corporate events can vary from a Dallas team building events to an office holiday party.

However, if you are working in an office, you are most probable to be called to such an event at least once a year. Ladies do love to dress up for events, but deciding what to wear is the most crucial moment in a woman’s day. Usually, anything that you can carry with poise is perfect yet, office events are a different ball game. Almost all the attendees are the same people with whom you are going to work the next day, so it is extremely essential to uphold your height of professionalism. Your attire is the perfect way to do so. Following are a few points you must keep in mind:

First of all, always wear for the occasion. Office events can be of many kinds. At times the dress code is stated on the invitations. This makes everything seem so easy. However, if it is not stated, look for the time and type of the event. Sometimes it can be nothing more than an informal picnic day and at times a formal evening. In any case, nothing must be out of limits. Keep everything subtle.

Don’t forget your two most necessary accessories: smile and poise. Even if you are known as a very solemn person in the office, a party is a good time to loosen yourself a bit. This displays your lively personality and appeal.

Being gifted to grab everyone’s attention is okay but dressing too sexy is absolutely the biggest mistake you can make at such an event. Never wear dresses that are too revealing. This can completely destroy your impression at work.

The above tip does not restrict you to dress beautifully. Ever looked at the red carpet reviews? Some celebrities always manage to look so sophisticated yet glamorous. Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and others by no means overexpose themselves on the red carpet. Try their trick but keep away from long gowns. Knee length skirts are ideal.

When the type of an event is not known to you, the easiest option is wearing what you normally wear at work. Not jeans, maybe, but a nice spotless piece of satin pants complimented with a silk or cashmere blouse. Try anything you are mostly at ease with. A sequined shawl or scarf can really used as a head turner.

The next step is to accessorize that casual appearance. Bring up the whole impression with the shimmers of jewelry and other trimmings. You can generously add a little bling with stylish footwear, fancy belts and a small glittering purse. A nice updo can really do a great job in finishing the perfect office party look.

Connor Sullivan recently researched Dallas corporate events for his company’s retreat this summer. He made arrangements for his employees to attend Dallas team building events to improve their communications and leadership skills. Don’t Discount The Idea Of Leadership Development Training

by Gregory Covey on May.20, 2010, under Leadership

I have never turned down the opportunity to attend any type of leadership development training in the three decades that I have been in a leadership capacity because I thought that I already knew it all. Actually, the truth is that I am continuously looking for more ways to increase my leadership skills. I constantly keep my eyes and ears open for all types of training, such as, organizational, negotiation skills, and executive coaching ..

Some of the best leadership development training I have been to always includes, some type of practical application. This could come in the form of the students playing out a scenario, or the instructor acting out a role. In my career I have seen it all and rarely does anything ever go exactly the way a leadership course trains you for. That is not to say that it is not valuable, because it is! Just keep in mind that each and every situation will be slightly different.

New leaders who are just entering their new role often times make a tremendous error in judgment by trying to copying a leadership style of someone they respect and admire. This rarely if ever works out for them. New leaders must develop their very own style of leadership and not make an attempt to be like someone else. Trying to duplicate someone else will only be looked at from their staff as fake and untrustworthy. Develop your own style!

How to deal with poor performance or behavior always seems to be a challenge for new leaders entering into their role. This can be intimidating for the new leader. As they are trying to feel their way around they will either attack the problem head on or be way to hands off hoping it will go away on its own. Some will unfortunately wait until they just can’t take it anymore and blow up on the person. Of course this is a disaster and may lead to a very bad outcome. A different type of leadership development training would be good for this type of person brand new to their role. Something that will help them see problems beginning and how to approach a solution before things get out of hand.

In conclusion, leadership development training must and will add value to your business. However, be cautious as you consider the many different types available. On the flip side of the coin don’t be so cautious that you do nothing. In this case I would have to present the question of how much could you add to your profit by increasing productivity by a few percentage points. Although there is no guarantee of this, I know for a fact that the better the leader is the more profit an organization has. Labor is generally a big part of any business, and leaders affect your labor force in a direct way. No excuses for not attending!

How Marketing Executive Recruiters Aid Business Hiring

by Bill McNamee-Lamb on May.19, 2010, under Leadership

Those that may not have heard of the moniker “marketing executive recruiter” are assuredly familiar with the term “head hunter.” The two are, essentially, one in the same. A marketing executive recruiter is generally someone that is hired to locate marketing professionals for executive level positions. It is their prime business to connect top marketing professionals with those companies in dire need of their expertise.

Some may wonder what this might have to do with their own individual company. Some may even be thinking that they are sharp enough to hire their own employees. Yet, when you stop to truly think about it, you can see the scores of responsibilities that are required to handle such work. Most people would find the process of interviewing potential hires, eliminating those that do not fit the grade, and then actually deciding on someone that can fit into a fast paced office environment to be a little burdensome.

Remember, you have your own job duties to handle. What value would there be in wasting hours putting out job advertisements, reviewing resumes, and having to conduct various interviews when you have other responsibilities? This process becomes further is the fact that you would be skimming the resumes to look at various people that just do not have the experience for executive level positions. Yet, they apply anyway. You need to sort them out prior to hiring the right professionals that are worth the time interviewing.

Even if you can delegate these time-consuming tasks to an assistant or someone else on staff, your office is wasting valuable time searching out the right marketing professionals.

Why not let someone else do all of it for you?

What you are doing when you hire a marketing executive recruiter is delegating the candidate search duties to someone with expertise in finding marketing professionals. It can be like finding that tiny needle in a haystack of unqualified applicants at times, but a skilled head hunter will already have contacts with some of the top professionals in the industry and will know exactly how to draw in others.

When you hire a skilled marketing executive recruiter, you will gain more qualified applicants than you would have found on your own. You will discover them arriving in a much shorter period of time as well. You will end up with job candidates that you probably would not have otherwise come across if you were advertising through the traditional channel.

Stop and think about it. When you take out an ad in a local paper to advertise the executive marketing position, you are advertising to a diminishing audience. Few papers have strong circulations these days. Not all that many people will see the ads and, hence, apply for the job(s). And those that do may not even be close to the level you need to fill an executive marketing position.

You could list your job on an online job board, but they are so cluttered and mixed up that most job searchers get frustrated and quit looking before they come across all of the available opportunities.

The best bet here is to hire a recruiter that has the proper connections in the profession that can aid in finding the right candidate. You will certainly end up with the widest selection of professionals to select from. You need not waste a lot of time or waste any of your staff’s time weeding out those candidates that clearly lack the qualifications for the position.

When you perform interviews, you need to select the right personnel. You would be best served working with a professional marketing executive that truly knows exactly what they are doing. This is the way your business will get ahead without losing any valuable resources. You need to hire a marketing recruiter. That is the best way to go about the process.

How To Become An Ideal Leader

by Jimmie Schwinn on May.09, 2010, under Leadership

A lot of people are stuck in a rut getting nothing done. You see that none of your goals get accomplished. That is why maybe you should think about being a leader. Doing things your own way, and knowing that things are getting done the correct way.

Some people believe that great leaders are made, not born. Yes, it may be true that some people are born with natural talents. However, without practice, without drive, without enthusiasm, and without experience, there can be no true development in leadership. You must also remember that good leaders are continually working and studying to improve their natural skills. This takes a commitment to constantly improve in whatever endeavor a person chooses.

First of all, let’s define leadership. To be a leader, one must be able to influence others to accomplish a goal, or an objective. He contributes to the organization and cohesion of a group. Contrary to what most people believe, leadership is not about power. It is not about harassing people or driving them using fear. It is about encouraging others towards the goal of the organization. It is putting everyone on the same page and helping them see the big picture of the organization. You must be a leader not a boss. You have to get people to follow you. How is this accomplished?

Leadership depends on where you are taking the organization. To be a leader, you must know what you’re doing. You need to know who to talk to, and where you want to go. If your followers trust in your judgment for the organization, they will be on board with you and from there you should prosper.

As a leader, you must remember that your whole organization’s reputation is based on your work ethic. Everything comes down onto you. That is why you need to build trustworthy, confident relationships with your subordinates. You must know that if you give them reason to trust you and your judgments, they will do everything in their power to work hard to better the organization.

The way you deal with your people, and the relationships you build will lay the foundation for the strength of your group. The stronger your relationship, the stronger their trust and confidence is in your capabilities. Once you have their trust and confidence, you may now proceed to communicate the goals and objectives you are to undertake. Communication is a very important key to good leadership. Without this you can not be a good leader. The knowledge and technical expertise you have must be clearly imparted to other people.

Leaders can not always do it all. But one skill that a leader should have is good judgment. You never know when a negative situation will come up and you need good judgment to come up with a helpful solution. Not only can you help with this, but the skills of your subordinates can help also. No one should work alone, and everyone owns a hidden skill or talent that can help the organization.

Remember being a leader takes a good deal of work and time. It is not learned overnight. Also, it is not about just your. It is about you and the people around you. So, do you have the drive and the desire required of leaders? Do you have the desire to work cooperatively with other people? Then start now. Take your stand and be a leader today!

You Want to Give Constructive Criticism, Don’t You?

by David Versilles on May.08, 2010, under Leadership

One thing that will be required of you when you are in a leader role is the ability to give constructive criticism, not a destructive one. Not only destructive can lose your team’s morale, people tends to lose respect for you too! More often than not destructive criticism is a result of bad communication skills, thus no amount of good intention can save you from appearing the wrong way.

Constructive criticism can also have the beneficial effect of lifting your team’s productivity and output, on the other hand giving negative criticism only can not do a thing for your team.

In this article we will examine the components of constructive criticism and how you too can use them in your workplace.

Downplay – The art of downplaying your harsh comments will be handy because it does not put the other party on defensive mode right away. Start by giving a nice and positive compliment, your criticism should only come somewhere in the middle while ending on a more positive note to your subordinate. For psychological reason, it would appear less harsh due to them and they will normally take it better that way. Another thing to make sure is that you do not take things to a personal level, always stay true to the matter at hand only.

Know when to be direct – Depending on the situation, you might need to stop beating around the bush and approach your staff directly, especially in a situation where the reputation and good standards of your company are involved. Knowing when to be direct can make sure that you get your views across as intended just be sure that you also offer them a solution and not leave it for them to figure it out, as most of them would not be able to. You also want to strive to understand why they did what they did and help correct their mistakes, instead of just punishing them.

Repeating too often – This will leave you with no positive outcome, thus after you’ve given your thoughts you need to give time and space for your staff to digest and implement. Remember that you’re giving your criticism to improve things, and blatantly repeating yourself over and over again will not achieve anything, learn how to encourage and bring the best out of your staff will get your better results.

Do It In Private – If your message might be embarrassing for your staff, then you should do it privately. If you think about it, doing it in public can not only embarrass them, it can negatively impact the productivity as well as the loyalty of your staff. Granted that they needed the criticism, but doing so privately can garner more respect and more positive outcome from them.

Lastly, be specific about the problems and the solution that you’re offering, many times vague message leaves them half hanging and have no idea on how to improve on the current situation.

The Art Of Leading And Following

by Bart Icles on May.05, 2010, under Leadership

Everyone has the capacity to lead, but not everyone responds to this. Anyone can do it, but some are too scared to admit it. Some are too conscious of themselves to take such responsibility. If you are one of those who respond, then this is for you. As a confident person willing to take the lead, you must have the intention of enhancing this ability to lead the group by taking Leadership Development Programs, courses and workshops that will definitely be of great help when it comes to that business. Such programs will help you gain higher self-esteem and confidence in oneself.

Leadership development is simply the method of someone wanting to improve ones talent in guidance, control, and headship. Anyone who is ambitioning to become an excellent leader should look into the fact that they are still in the “ambitioning stage” and that they still have to be educated on how and what it means to be a leader. One must learn how to behave properly, decide quickly and reflect proper attitudes.

Leading has things to consider. The first one is your familiarity with the people you are trying to lead. You should know what kind of words would get into their brains. You should know them well enough to know what kind of music they like, or what kind of dancing is their type. From which generation are they from? Second is your ability to teach. Of course a leader is also considered a teacher to a lot of people. You should be able to teach people how to think and make decisions for themselves, giving them a more independent way of thinking. Leadership development will provide you techniques on how to do such things.

Also, being a leader has its limitations. First of all, you shouldn’t have any favorites because this creates a bias between you and whoever your favorite might or could be. It is unprofessional to have favorites because the rest of the followers would eventually turn their back on you placing your credibility at stake. Another is that you shouldn’t use your power for you own personal gain. Remember that as a leader, you are serving the people, not the other way around. The only difference between you and them is that you are called “leader” but you are still human beings alike. Don’t steal from them because you have the power, don’t use your power against them.

Leading is an art. There is honor, discipline, talent, and individuality in it. However, this individuality is different. This individuality is a personal view of what leading is. The only thing that all forms of leading is, is that they all look at the betterment of those who believes, looks up, and trusts in the leader. Be a leader, and create a future, take Leadership Development to hype it up for you.

Some Ideas On How To Build Self Confidence

by Barbara Davis on May.01, 2010, under Leadership

Nearly everyone struggles with self esteem issues at some point during their life. For some of us, it is because we received harmful messages during childhood that undermined our feelings of self worth. For others of us, it is because of an event, such as a divorce or job loss, that happened later in life. Some people feel unworthy because of their appearance. Others lack self esteem because of economic limitations. Whatever the reason, we all struggle at one time or another, and could use some advice about how to build self confidence.

Often, we feel that we are powerless to improve our own state of mind. We think that since our bad feelings were the result of outside forces, only outside forces can change them. This is not true. There are lots of actions you can take to help improve your own emotional state and raise your self esteem. Here are a few things to try.

Physical Activity.

I cannot stress enough what a huge difference exercise can make in your state of mind. Even if you only work in a couple of workouts a week, you will notice changes. And if you manage thirty minutes to an hour three or four times a week, it could be revolutionary. Exercise makes your body feel wonderful. The more you work out, the easier the workouts become, and the more you can do. Your increased strength will make you feel confident and powerful.

Find Something You Do Well

Everyone does something well, including you. In fact, you probably do lots of things well. However, many of us have the problem of focusing on things we want to be good at rather than things we are good at. There is nothing wrong with challenging yourself and trying to learn skills that don’t come naturally to you. However, in addition to that, you should work at the things that do come naturally. For instance, if you are a great cook, invite some friends over and make them dinner. If you love to sing, join a choir. In doing the things that come naturally, you will build up your confidence, and give yourself a better attitude with which to tackle more challenging pursuits.

Take Pride in How You Look

If you are depressed, one of the worst things you can do is to let your depression manifest itself in your appearance. However, that is all too often exactly what happens. When we are depressed, we lack the energy to take care of ourselves. We look tired and disheveled, and the image in the mirror only reinforces our feelings of inadequacy. When you are depressed, it is even more important to wear colors that make you feel good and clothes that make you feel confident and attractive. That way, each time you see your reflection, your low self esteem is challenged rather than reinforced.

You already have all of the tools you need to feel good about yourself. As the old adage goes, “get in where you fit in.” You don’t have to radically alter your life to feel better about yourself. Once you make some small changes, any necessary big changes will follow.

Locate how to Start Building Your Self Confidence Now! When you let your self confidence shine people will notice you more. Head online for the methods you need today.

Essential Elements Of Strategic Thinking

by Bart Icles on Mar.26, 2010, under Leadership

Improving the business performance of your company will most likely involve a lot of strategic thinking. In deed, this method of thinking can help executive leaders, managers, as well as rank and file employees, in raising the bar of their performance in the company, especially in comparing where they are now and where they would want the company and themselves to be in the future. It can also be a lot of help to develop such a method of thinking within the company, so it can smoothly work hand in hand with the vision of the company. Through this, you will be able to better ensure that the company is moving towards the achievement of its vision and objectives through a structured and progressive path.

Many experts in the field of marketing and management believe that strategic thinking requires certain essential factors or elements for it to exist. For example, thinking strategically in many organizations starts with having clear visions of the future. What companies must take note of is that there is a big difference between having random visions of what will come and being able to come up with visions that have a strategic purpose that have been developed through a creative manner. And this has primarily influenced people to think of strategic thinkers as visionaries.

Strategic thinking also involves learning from experience. This simply means that if you want to become a strategic thinker, you must be ready to continuously learn and become a lifelong learner. This can help you much in using your various experiences in becoming better at analyzing strategic issues. And through this, you will be able to continuously improve yourself in anything that you do. Also, you must also be able to learn how to use your time effectively, and at the same time, efficiently. It is no secret that strategic thinkers give much importance to time, making them real masters of strategic time management.

Becoming a strategic thinker also involves having a high level of awareness regarding the different things that are happening around you. And what is even more important is that you are able to learn as much as you can from them. Keep in mind that strategic thinkers are meant to learn as long as they live, and each experience is always part of their learning.

Keep in mind that it is quite possible for everyone to develop strategic thinking but for this possible, people must have the will to learn. Along with this, leaders must also learn how to listen well to what their employees have to say. Through this, thinking strategically can very well become a reality.

Teamwork And The Modern Day Organization

by Bart Icles on Mar.22, 2010, under Leadership

Most of us are quite familiar with how it is to work as part of a team but it is surprising that not too many of us have a clear understanding of the real meaning of teamwork. Many of us think that this concept only applies to athletic clubs, especially those concerning sporting events that require players to be in a team. It is quite important for employees in organizations and companies to work as a team and to feel that they are part of a team. And it would really help a lot if we are able to distinguish a mere group from a solid team. Yes, there is a big difference in these two and it is that big difference that we should take note of.

A group is merely a set of people that can be identified under a certain category. What differentiates a team from a group is the presence of teamwork. Working as a team involves having the capability to recognize and understand the different strengths and abilities that a certain person has and how these affect the team in general. With continuous developments in technology and with the changing financial and economic scenarios, it can certainly be quite an advantage to work as a team and not merely as a group.

It is true that is possible for a group of people to accomplish their tasks individually but there is really a significant difference between working as a group and working as a team. It is far easier to accomplish the different goals of the company or organization if teamwork is present. And this is why there is a significant number of companies that are starting to build and develop work teams. There are several ways to build and develop work teams, and one of the most popular ways is through team building activities.

We have often heard of team building activities but these activities are more than just opportunities to break free from our tedious daily tasks. Rather, these activities are geared toward helping employees understand what it really means to be part of a team, what makes a team, and how it feels to develop a team. These activities are also opportunities to check on what needs to be improved and how they can be improved as teams try to achieve their common goals.

Learn to place value on teamwork. Remember that employees are able to give more through working in teams. And through this, there is always room for collaboration and innovation.

Productive Rage Control – 7 Remarkable Methods to Manage Anger Through Rage Control

by Broyde McDonald on Mar.01, 2010, under Leadership

Rage control is doing what it takes to have your anger expressed without the use of fury and violence. Just because rage involves violence we know that there is the possibility of something wrong taking place.

This article talks of the different ways that rage control efforts can succeed.

Exercise

If you do not want to rage, do not underestimate the power of exercise to help you with this. Exercise, even if it is only moderate exercise will make you feel better, so that you do not feel your anger as deeply.

Don’t seethe

When you keep your anger inside, it only increases the chances that this anger will turn to rage. It will help you to learn how to express yourself more, and to continue to improve in that area of your communications.

Anger drugs

Sometimes people insist that there is a drug that can help them with their anger problem. The truth is however, that drugs treat some of the symptoms that are related to anger, but they tend not to affect the anger itself.

Exercise often does everything that the anger drugs are supposed to be able to do.

Relax

When you are more relaxed than you are uptight or anxious, rage control would not concern you as much as when you are always concerned about this, that, or the other thing.

Distractions

Distractions can be used to help stop you from becoming frustrated. Something interesting and productive like a hobby will help you to relax and not be so annoyed by your frustrations.

Maturity

Make progress in your personal maturity. When you become more advanced in your mind, you will find that it is increasingly difficult for you to be shaken out of your self control.

When your maturity is greater your superior mindset will show you what it takes to stop rage from being a serious concern to you.

Anger management classes

Do anger management classes; they help. You will get many new ways of dealing with your anger. The classes are inexpensive and are proven to be more than 95% effective in changing thinking and behavior. The amount of time it takes for you to see improvement will be small and your success is mainly dependent upon on how much you want to succeed.

Broyde McDonald writes to help you succeed in your anger management efforts. Learn more about expressing anger and rage controlwith his popular free anger management ebook.
